Murray Cup 2021
Sixteen members and one visitor attended the competition this year, not a great turn out for our end of season competition. Weather was generally wet and windy with variable light conditions changing with the cloud cover, gazebos were used at all distances.
We started the day by changing targets 1-3 from TR to F-Class, and changed targets 2 and 3 back to TR after the 500 yard shoot, as only two of those present needed the F-Class target. Kenneth Macdonald won the TR Murray Cup with steady shooting, scoring 73 at all three distances, finishing with a score of 219.25. This score added to his Tullibardine Meeting aggregate also won him the Smith Tankard. Well done Kenny! Paul Crosbie won the FTR Class with a score of 209.11, and Peter Burbridge won the Club Class FTR with a score of 220.20 Unfortunately F-Open were not represented at the shoot. Winners in each class also won a bottle of whisky.
Lochboisdale Match 2021
Competition was held on Sunday 19th September, the number attending could have been better with only six from West Atholl and five from West of Scotland. Weather on the other hand could not have been better with a light to no breeze and only a slight drizzle early on. As a bonus, the Midges appear to have been on holiday on Sunday, or maybe in isolation due to Covid 19.
Scores from the best four in each team counted for the competition. West Atholl were two points ahead after five hundred with a score of 294.34, to West of Scotland's 292.37, little did we know how significant the Vee count would be. At six hundred West Atholl were two points behind with 291.30, to West of Scoltland's 293.37.
In the end, the result of a very close match was decided by the Vee count with both teams on 585, WA with 67 and WOS with 74.
West of Scotland Rifle Club therefore reclaimed the trophy from last year's winners.
GGG & RWS Brass
We have approximately 3200 guaranteed once fired cartridges from GGG batches 2015, 2016 and 2018. GGG cases are Boxer primed and relativaly easy to deprime, yet the primers are crimped in.
There are also two boxes containing at a guess around 1000 RWS cases which are much more desirable than the GGG.
These cases are available to club members. Contact John Gaskell if you are interested in aquiring the cases.
No restriction on quantity of GGG cases for sale, but maximum of 200 per member of RWS while the limited stock lasts.
Tony Langford
1941 – 2021
West Atholl Rifle Club sadly announce the death of fellow member Tony Langford. Tony was a Police Officer with Strathclyde Police and started shooting with the Scottish Police Rifle Association and would later become the Chairman of the association he was so actively involved with, even in failing health. Tony was also the long term Treasurer of the Strathclyde Police Rifle Pistol Club and latterly Police Scotland Rifle Pistol Club. He was a board member of the Scottish Police Recreation Association and twice attended the World Emergency Service Games in the USA and Ireland. He also helped run the multi-discipline shoot at Blair Atholl and, of-course, ran the Police Open shoot for some 40 years. He will be missed by many.

Tim Kidner wins Bob Aitken award
West Atholl Rifle Club would like to congratulate fellow member Tim Kidner GM on winning this years Bob Aitken award for services to shooting.
The award is given for Tim’s long service and dedication to the skill of Full Bore Shooting. For living memory Tim chaired the Scottish Rifle Association alternately with Bob and organised Scottish shooting events at home in Scotland and at Bisley and International Team matches in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada. Tim has given a significant element of his life and his time to the promotion of Full Bore Shooting both in the UK and internationally and there is no one more deserving of the award.

Season Restarting
Our season will restart with an informal shoot at short range this coming weekend on the 2 May. We may have enough interest to run a short range shoot on Saturday 1 May. Members intending to shoot on the Saturday should email me directly.
Another informal shoot is planned for Sunday 9 May.
This first club shoot counting towards club trophies will be at short range on 16 May.
These shoots will be run on the same basis as last year where shooters will form groups of six and string shoot one to a monitor/target.
We should be able to resume two shooters per monitor/target after the 17 May and resume our published fixture list:
