Several tons of aggregate were used to fill the depressions in the buttstop caused by bullet strikes behind each target.

James Bell's naval training comes into use at last. Sheer legs, block and tackle, sweat, tears and rude words were used to lift 9 foot railway sleepers onto the mantlet.

The work days were very successful. Much was done and only three members were injured (and one of them not seriously)!
